    Hi Tete,

Now that it’s been over a decade since intel introduced avx; I guess it’s safe to assume most “old” systems people have now-a-days might already be avx supported. I’m not entirely sure if avx will make any substantial difference on performance, but if it does; I think it’s time to take leverage of that.

    Hello Ren-san,

I tried building with AVX2 enabled before, but the main benchmark test results did not change.
Also, some people are still using my build on CPUs that do not support AVX.
Since making multiple builds takes a lot of time and effort, I plan to continue making only the SSE3 build for now.

I think using the right compiler flags produces better results than using AVX or AVX2.
However, for the very latest CPUs, it seems like AVX512 shows some promise?

I do not have a PC that can run AVX512 instructions right now, so I can not test how useful the AVX512 switch is on Firefox.
If I specify the CPU instruction set using compiler flags and other options, I would like to refer to the Windows system requirements and others at that time.

According to the following post, SSE4.2 support might be required in Windows 11 2024 H2. If this is true, I may enable the SSE4.2 compiler switch in my build after Windows 10 support ends:

Since my daily driver running Windows 10 Pro 22H2 has a Core2Quad 9550s CPU, its instruction set extensions stop at SSE 4.1. So i can’t further use your builds on that “historical” machine after the support for Windows 10 ends. I will further on use that machine with some brew of Linux, most probably MX-Linux, LinuxMint or ZorinOS. I evaluated them in VirtualBoxes and i like them all.

On my way more modern work machines (still on Win10Enterprise) and on my private laptop (already on Win11Pro), i will continue using your builds. I like them a lot, especially their “transparent” portable profile feature! 😉 So i can circumvent group policies hindering me installing extensions, like uBlock origin, etc.

BTW: Just now using your latest TEST1 build of FX 130.0 on my “historic” daily driver – running smooth as silk, as usual. 😉

I also used a PC with a Core 2 Quad Q9550 as a secondary machine until recently, and I loved it.
I think that even after Windows 10 support ends, the official Firefox may continue to support Windows 10 for a while.
I may hold off on using new instruction sets until official Firefox completely drops support for Windows 10. 🙂
