Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月9日 1:32 PM コメントするGunFirefox will end support for Windows 7 after Jan, 2023.
As a Windows 7 user and there’s still many Windows 7 users, I hope tete-san will keep building new build with Windows 7 support disregarding Mozilla’s decision.
Thanks very much.

Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月10日 1:21 PMGunThank Bachata-san, Windows 7 is still very good, the only thing the will lead to Windows 7’s demise is software companies stop supporting, not because of quality of security issues.
Windows 10 and 11 have a lot of bloatwares, and Windows 11 is terrible, resource hungry and high spec requirement.
Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月13日 7:40 AMUliPlease forgive me, but i would strongly suggest to upgrade to Windows 10 instead.
I did it in 2020 on my main driver from 2007 with now Core2Quad Q9550s and 8GB Ram. I went from 7 to 10 without a hassle and the free upgrade is still available. The computer is performing under Windows 10 at least on the same level as on Windows 7, when not even better! I just recommend updating!Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月14日 3:07 PMGunHi Uli-san, still Windows 10 uses more system resource than Windows 7, plus they collect everything us users do, thus I and many Windows 7 users decided to not upgrade to 10 eventhough it’s free, but free with costs. And Windows 7 UI is better to work with than 10, especially for developers.
Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月14日 9:02 PMUliHello Gun,
W10 does not use more resources than W7, who started this myth? The collection of data can easily be stopped, btw: W7 did this same thing also. And please clarify why the W7-UI should be better(?!) for developers? For a developer (like me!) the UI is completely the same, that’s why W7-software can easily run on W10.
I think users like you are only desperately in search for proof to keep their system as they are used to. You are using an un-patched for years system, not only endangering yourself, but also all the other users of the internet, that is proven!
So again, please update and stop spreading conspiracy myths.

2022年12月14日 10:36 PMUliAdditional comment:
If by W7-UI you mean the start menu of Windows 10 itself, simply install something like ClassicShell or OpenShell on Windows 10 and you can have classic XP-style, two column XP-style or the original W7-style menu. Simple as that…

2022年12月14日 11:21 PMTeteHello. At the moment, I do not plan to add any more types of my custom builds of Firefox. I regret I cannot meet your expectations…
Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
2022年12月15日 12:58 PMGunHi Uli,
About system resource, I don’t think it’s a myth that Windows 10 uses more system resource than Windows 7, it has a lot of background process and it uses more RAM, that’s basically more system resource. For example this simple benchmark shows that even in idle state, Windows 10 uses a lot more CPU than 7 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2PpvUj4REu8
And by saying Windows 10 UI, yes I mean the Start Menu, it has no Run, no Control Panel that’s why I said it’s not good for developer, as someone who develop Python apps I need to use Run a lot to open cmd, it’s possible to restore with 3rd party apps like ClassicShell but I don’t like the idea of installing 3rd party softwares to fix something like that, that method is hacky. There’s a lot of annoying problems like linking default apps, for example Windows 10 don’t allow non-MSStore Python to use shortlink in cmd, to fix that you need to disable default link, and that’s annoying for developers because we re-complile Python all the time to get what we need (replace OpenSSL with NSS/BoringSSL).
And about security, thoses aren’t my concern, I have used my Windows 7 for 10 years without getting infected by virus even once, and the mindset of old operating system is less security than newer ones isn’t really accurate, remember new systems add more stuffs and those new stuffs usually get exploted by hackers, Windows 10 is more bloated with a lot of unnecessary features that’s it’s more open to exploits in this case, and most security exploits are local so they’re not that dangerous.
The only way your system can get infected is your decision tbh, if you never click random .exe files mindlessly, you’re likely to 99% never get your OS infected, the only unlikely chance is software exploit, for example something like Microsoft Excel’s exploits that allow hackers to use Macro to run viruses.
Best regards,
Gun,Re: Please continue supporting Windows 7 after EoS
